Amazing. But I’m tearing my hair out over this one (what’s left of it). Is there some sort of Rosetta stone, or is figuring out the other codes really a matter of trial and error?
I found I was making an incorrect assumption about what counts as a valid, operative code. It turns out there’s a difference between what it takes for a code to take effect and what it takes for a code to get “locked in” with the glyphs turning black. Assuming the two were synonymous meant lots of wasted experimentation.
But Terry’s right: it really is all in the notes. At least everything you absolutely need for a perfect score.
Putting this in spoiler tags just in case — one turn of phrase is a bit more revealing than I intended — but it’s more of a nudge in the right direction than an outright solution:
It turns out the instructions are a bit misleading about what you should or shouldn’t do to successfully complete a room. Once you catch onto that, the real puzzle is figuring out how to complete all 8.
1: Jumping. Two 1s will let you jump higher, and a third one even more so.
2: Moving to the right. Each 2 will make you move faster to the right and slower to the left. Three of them will disable moving left entirely.
3: Screen borders. A single 3 on its own causes you to wrap around the screen in either direction.
4: Not much, but you can type 804 to immediately skip to the end of the game. Other codes with 4 don’t seem to lock in, so you can use this to keep typing more things without having to go to a checkpoint.
5: Spike immunity. Three of them will protect you from spikes entirely, while one of them followed by a direction (2 or 7) will protect you while you’re facing in that direction.
6: Slow fall. Having one of these in your tune reduces your jump to one pixel, but makes you fall very slowly.
7: Same as 2, but for moving left.
8: “Not”. Put this before a 1 and you can’t jump; before a 0 and you can’t fall; before a 3 and you can’t leave the screen.
9: ???
0: Down? Interacts with 8, but doesn’t seem to do much on its own.
Very interesting!
I played for a while, but only had the patience to aim for a score of three. It’s interesting to follow the instructions, but fun to play around myself too.
This is incredible. It’s like deciphering a language.

Everything’s in the notes!
I should have added this over Twitter but, without giving anything away completely (but still, best not to peek until you’re tearing your hair out):

Ok, this is helping. Had a little rage quit last night, but with a clear head and these bonus notes, I think I can figure this out…
Wow, this game is really inspiring!
8 points! I can sleep now 😀
Great game!
But:
I’m rather confused as to how score is calculated. I’ve only ever received 0.
I’ve even managed to get to the end without touching pink – albeit through a non-canonical route.
enjoyed 🙂 I’ve only ever gotten a score of zero.

I liked this a lot more before I realized that all the answers were in the notes.
Still clever as heck.
I’m stuck at 6 points! Awesome game though, will keep trying those A3 and B2 rooms I still haven’t solved.
OK I finally got 8, but I’m very confused about how I did it. Anyone care to enlighten me on how do the codes work?
Here’s my best understanding of what the numbers mean.
Thanks!
That URL makes me so jealous.
