  1. Neat, this is more clever than it at first appears, the way health is tied to a timer and can only be repleted by collecting what drops from fallen enemies. You’re thus forced to put yourself in harm’s way occasionally, likely even getting hit on purpose so that you can collect the energy you need.

I’m not sure there’s any reason not to make the C key autofire since there’s clearly no strategy better than mashing the c key as fast as possible whenever not doing something else (in the hopes of catching something just as it enters the screen, before it has a chance to shoot back).

It strikes me now that I never used the jump button again after the first labelled obstacle. I had assumed it was specifically for dealing with screen-wide obstacles (none of which appear after the first) but now realize it could almost certainly have been put to regular good use had I thought to do so.

It took me a few tries to get through the first level — which was a satisfying experience, getting slightly better each time — and then I made my way through the second two on my first try. But I just realized now that the star-shaped homing enemies never showed up in level 2 or 3. I’m mentioning that here in case it’s a bug (since on that final successful playthrough I should admit they were completely immobile when they showed up in level 1.)
