  1. this game sucks

this is the stupidest game i’ve ever seen.

  2. Couldn’t get past the Java load screen. 😥

    • (I thought I was having the same problem — in Chrome, even after clicking to give Java permission to launch — but it turns out it’s just taking a very long time to load. Give it time and it should eventually pop up.)

  3. To clear the air a bit after the above:

I like this a bunch. I like that it’s trivial to ‘win’ and takes a bit of effort to ‘lose.’ And I like how it’s just about the simplest mechanic one can dream up, but in playing repeatedly it sketches out an imaginary game that seems to have an unheard of variety of interlocking game systems. It’s ultimately a single joke, but it’s a clever one, and it really isn’t demanding much of your time (so by an amount-of-pleasure-per-time-unit metric it approaches infinity.)

Possibly interesting but possibly trivial: if you ‘lose’ by interrupting with the up arrow instead of releasing the left or right arrow, you can see your character fall to the ground. You can deduce, then, that the author took the time to move the character to the correct height on each flickering frame, and that the character really is a separate sprite and not simply baked into the background.

    • This feels like an appropriate place to say; I really enjoy reading your comments here, and I appreciate you taking the game to voice them!

      • (Thanks, that’s good to hear. Naturally, I really appreciate what you all are doing with this site. I like how even with the no-writeup format — and maybe because of it? — it feels like the site as a whole adds up to an implicit gentle argument: something along the lines of ‘there are are so many interesting things out there’ or ‘this is a very exciting time for games’ or maybe even ‘…and this bustling, broad, non-commercial sphere is at the heart of it.’)

  4. Really loved this – and also (Spoiler?) that there is actually something to figure out. I only did so on my second session with it. Non-games where some people won’t figure out the puzzle are the funniest non-games.

    • I have to admit I’m pretty sure I missed what you’re referring to. Any chance for another hint?

      • Just that it’s possible to win at all, I imagine (i.e. if you just hold right or left, you will win after a second or so.)

  5. Best one is “you tried a diplomatic approach with the final boss.”

  6. Wow i didn’t know that you talked about my old game !
Thanks for all your comments !

For people having problem with java… well it’s one of the reasons why i don’t use Processing to make games anymore.

    • I’m using AVG. Turning off Link Scanner has made Java applets work. Hope this helps others.
