Interesting how the game that won LD26 never got a feature anywhere. I’d like to imagine it’s not us being lame, but the LD internal community being amazing.
I was pondering this. I think it reflects an interesting quirk of the LD voting and scoring system. Notice that the game did not score above double digits in any individual category besides Overall and the all-important Coolness factor.
It’s a very good game; I just found several other games more interesting to write about than this one. Not quite sure what to draw from this.
I should add that the 2nd-6th place games in the competition were all featured on one site or another–and each of them has a single digit score in at least one category other than Overall.
Thinking about this more, it may have a lot to do with bloggers and journalists being able to find a hook or an angle to write about.
Fun little game that feels polished, with surprising variety for its (pleasingly) short length, but its trickiness and narrow focus on a single avatar almost immediately made me stop paying attention to the aesthetic composition. It’s a curious paradox: I would probably not have been so curious to try it if it didn’t look the way it did, but playing it made me feel like it could’ve looked like anything else and it would’ve made no difference at all. I don’t really know what to make of that.
