Raoul589 here.

I hope you guys managed to get past the two bits where you are stuck. For the sneaky guard part, remember these three rules:

- Guards cannot see behind themselves, even if you are just one tile behind them.

- Guards will spot you if you are in the tile directly beside them.

- Guards follow completely predictable routes.

I've only just gotten past that. It turns out there's a shadowy figure in the upper right corner of the dock screen from whom you need to purchase something seemingly inconsequential (though conspicuously so).

Agreed that the fetch quest is the first misstep in an otherwise thus-far intriguing and satisfying game.

the gem fetch was sort of bleh, but the guard-dodging sneaky bit later is the REAL pain. i'd like to get back into it, because i'm a sucker for ambitious RPGM games, and the combat is fun, but, damn, do i hate hiding from guards when i can't see their vision ranges.

I was quite liking this until I got as far as the first big town, at which point it got a bit overwhelming, and I didn't enjoy the gem fetch quest bit. It seems like it might be worth sticking with, though.
